The Six Show at the Mickey Gilley Theater (www.thesixshow.com) is performed by the Knudson Brothers, who have been singing together as a group since the 1970’s. The tagline for their Branson show is “SIX Voices Zero Instruments ALL Music,” but their style is not acapella in the traditional sense. What makes this show unique is the group’s ability to create the sound of an accompanying band with their voices. As they covered several decades and genres of music, the group blended sounds of drums, a bass guitar, keyboards and other instruments into their singing. The show has something for everyone because of the wide range of music performed, and the brothers work in a good amount of comedy and warmth from their own personal experiences.
While the entire show was entertaining, a few highlights include a hilarious parody of Justin Bieber, an 80s montage and the brothers’ tribute to their mother. The brothers come from a family of ten sons that were very close to their mother who died of cancer at 52. Their touching original song celebrating her life brought tears to our teenage girls’ eyes. On the lighter side, the group covered Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” while one of the middle-aged members of the group dressed as Bieber made his way to one of the elderly ladies in the audience and seronaded her. I especially enjoyed the 80s montage that included hits such as Devo’s “Whip It,” the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and A-ha’s “Take on Me.” And of course, what musical variety show wouldn’t be complete without a take on Elvis!
With the many musical show choices that Branson has, this is one show that will please your whole family. We have three teenage daughters and a ten year-old son who all enjoyed the show and were talking about it the next day. On your next visit to Branson make sure to catch this show.
